FINANCIAL BASICS: BOND YIELD

Bond yield is simply the rate of return received from investing in a bond. There is a simple version of yield, and a broader version. The current yield takes only the return generated from the coupon payments into account. The broader version is the Yield to Maturity, which is the more comprehensive measure of return as it involves the coupon payments and the capital gain on the face value that is returned.
